The annual Mid Autumn Lantern Carnival is here again. This year and for the first time ever, it is held at the Chinatown's field (Banda Street opposite Maxwell food Centre), and its theme features World heritage Lanterns of 8 different nations, namely China, India, Japan, Turkey, Nepal, Cambodia, Russia & U.K.
The event runs from 8 September till 30 September 2007. Opening hours are weekdays from 5pm – 11.30pm and weekends from 5pm – 12.30 am.
For Chinatown Mid Autumn Lantern Carnival 2007, the main sponsor is NTUC income and the official card is the NTUC card. It's supported by Kreta Ayer Kim Seng CCC and our National Heritage Board will be holding a Mid-Autumn Festival exhibits at the event.
This year's theme presents a totally new display with massive-sized lanterns forming the reproduction of UNESCO endorsed World Heritages.
One of the attractions includes Singapore 's longest lantern, namely a 600 feet lantern of the Great Wall of China .
Another gigantic landmark is set to break from the traditional mould, and will be made of 200,000 cocoons to create a vibrant dragon and phoenix lantern.
Tons of surprises are installed for children where cartoon and insect lanterns beetle fighting lanterns are situated in the event ground to fascinate them. On top of that, each child will get their own lanterns for free.
There is one special Mega Lantern by the name of TRAVEL TO THE MOON with animation that will provide additional excitement.
While the children are indulged in their own fun, folks of other ages are not neglected. Performances of incredible magic and balloon sculpting are carried out nightly. We've also invited special guests including musicians from Mexican troupe and delightful lady bellydancers to charm and entertain everyone.
Competitions with cash prizes make up part of the carnival, where “Extreme Photo Contest” will have avid photographers submit photos of unique buildings and monuments. Prizes ($600, $300 and $200) is awarded to the top three photos that exhibit the most magnificence.
Parents with lovely daughters can also enter their kids in the “Prettiest Princess contest” where cash prizes are also awarded to the top 3 contestants as decided by our panel of judges.
